Washed Up Driftwood Art

About the artist

My name is Emma Brown, I am a 44 year old artist living on the Isle of Wight.

I have not always worked with wood, my career as a carer spanned 22 years, working in physical disabilities, mental health care and dementia. Everything changed in the summer of 2018, whilst at work, mid July, my legs failed me going up the stairs.

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2008 and had no major relapses since, that was up until then.

The extreme heat that summer had worsened my M.S symptoms and I was in despair regarding my future.

After a very dark few weeks I decided to try something new, whilst on the beach I found some driftwood and started as a hobby at first creating hiking sticks and small light features for the house.

I made the decision to give up full time work and concentrate on creating art with driftwood and with the support of my partner here I am 10 months later.

I currently have a small shop/gallery in the Mews Shanklin old Village selling my driftwood art as well as original paintings and artwork by local artist Artistic Abilities.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and I hope you enjoy the art.
